Best and Worst Mascaras

The one beauty product that every girl needs is mascara.

I have tried pretty much all of the popular mascaras out there and wanted to give a review on the best and worst as most of them were a waste of money. Now personally i like volume for my lashes, as mine are already pretty long, so if a mascara doesnt give me volume, it is ruled out, but i know that a lot of people like lengthening mascaras so I will tell you if the mascara is good for lengthening, even if I dont like it.

Worst Mascaras
1. L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes (Extra Black)

I bought this mascara because almost all of my friends use this mascara, and i saw wonderful results on their lashes. I knew that it was a "wet" mascara and i prefer dry ones and also that is was a rubber brush and i prefer bristled ones, but i still went against all my make up morals and bought it. I was so excited to try it so as soon as i got home from town i tried it and low and behold it looked horrible on me. It made all of my lashes clump together, which is exactly the opposite of what it is advetised to do, it gave them no volume at the roots and worst of all it took forever to dry, meaning that i couldnt look up or down for at least ten minutes in fear of getting lash marks all around my eyes. The only good thing about this mascara was the intense black colour of it that made my eyes look extremely dramatic, but overall, not a good mascara, and not all its cracked up to be. Like i said though i would tell you if the mascaras were good lengtheners, and on a scale of 1 - 5 i would give this 3 for length.

2. MAC Pro Lash (Coal Black)

This is the first and last Mac mascara i have ever bought, and from which list it is in, im sure you can all tell why. I must admit i hadnt heard good things about Mac macaras when i researched them, but i got excited when ordering things with my birthday money one year and just bought one anyway. I choose the mascara that Mac promised would "lengthen, thicken all whilst not flaking, making it a totally hardwearing mascara", which is exaclty what i needed as all of my mascaras at the time just flaked under my eyes. My initial reactions to the product when i opened it were that the brush was tiny and it smelt horrible. When i applied the mascara, i really saw no difference in my lashes except that they were blacker, there was no volume or length added at all, and i was thoroughly dissapointed. Pro lash did pull through on the no flaking promise but because the actual mascara made no difference to my lashes i didnt really matter. Even for length this would get a 0. Go with what you read, these gurus know what they are talking about. Dont buy Mac masacaras, especially not Pro Lash.

Inbetween Mascaras (Sort of Best and Worst)
1. YSL Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils (Noir Radical)

I love this mascara for what it does to my lashes, the brush is long and dense so adds volume immediatly while creating a reasonable amount of length, the noir radical colour adds even more intensity and this really does make my lashes volumised. It also smells divine, which i love about masacars when they smell good, it smells fresh and clean with a hint of honey, probably not intentionally but it does. So i bet you are wondering why this mascara is in the inbetween mascaras category and not in the best mascaras, and this is why: it leaves lash lines around my eyes all day long, no matter how long i leave it to dry of how much fix+ i spray on it, the lash lines still appear all day. This leaves me looking like something out of the 1920's with big lashes all on my brow bones and under my eyes. For this reason i just cant wear this mascara, how ever great it makes my lashes look, and so i have to leave it rotting in my make up draw, unable to use it, and sad to see £22 pounds go to waste.

Best Mascaras
1. Bobbi Brown Extreme Party Mascara (Black)

I have used this mascara almost everyday for the past year and i love it, not only because it is a "Dry mascara" and has a bristle brush, but because it seperates your lashes perfectly and does what volume millions lashes should have done. Admittedly i wouldnt wear this mascara on its own because it doesnt give me, personally, a dramatic enough look, but for someone who prefers a more natural look it would be perfect, and for those who like more dramatic styling (like me) it makes the perfect "primer" for your volumising mascara afterwards. Another reason why i love it so much is because after you have been wearing mascara all day and it has gone hard and clumpy, you can use this mascara on top again and it will make you lashes look fresh and even more volumised, whereas some mascaras just dont do anything after a second application. Overall, this is my favourite mascara of all time to shape my eyelashes ready for volume and i would recommend it to everyone out there.

2. Bobbi Brown Everything Mascara (Black)

As you can tell i am in love with Bobbi Brown mascaras, and this everything mascara does basically the same thing as the extreme party mascara, but with a few small differences. First of all the tube is stightly longer and bigger, so you get more product for your money if you get this instead of the extreme party mascara. Also the brush, which is also a bristle brush, is slightly longer and fuller with a more tapered end, so you can get more volume and length whilst being able to reach the smallest lashes in the inside corner of your eye. Love this mascara too, does what it says on the tin, EVERYTHING.

3. Maybelline the Colassol Volum' Express Mascara (Black)

I use this mascara over either one of my Bobbi Brown mascaras and it gives you extremely volumised lashes. Yes it is a bristle brush, and i love it as always, the brush itself it pretty big and reaches all your lashes in one stroke. Not much else i can really say about this one, except if you are looking for a good drugstore mascara, this is the one. (american dupe = covergirl lashblast)

 4. Benefit BAD gal lash (black)

Finally, we have arrived at my favourite mascara of all time. This mascara is all about volume, so if you dont like volume then step away from the benefit counter at once. The brush is huge, even bigger than the colossal volume brush, and it is, yep you've guessed it a BRISTLE BRUSH, and the formula is extremely dry which is perfect for creating clumpy volumised lashes (which i love). Be careful not to walk away from the counter with the waterproof version though, as i did initially, if you are looking for volume, as the brush is much thinner and smaller, and you will not get the same effect. This doesnt need to be paired with either of the Bobbi Brown mascaras in my make up routine as it creates perfect lashes itself. The perfect mascara for volumous lashes, MY FAVOURITE.
